Stop-motion Creative Lab!

Conceived by Tamás Patrovits and Anna Ida Orosz, the Primanima Animation Funzone was opened to the public for the first time in 2012, on the occasion of the ‘Primanima’ World Festival of First Animation.

The aim of the Funzone is to introduce all age groups to the magic of animation cinema. Experienced animators and educators will introduce visitors to various techniques (drawing, stop-motion, puppetry, objects, animation with sand and lego, pixillation) and guide them in trying out some camera-less animation tools (zoetrope, phenakistoscope, thaumatrope).

Traditional and hand-animated tricks, as well as digital, 2D and 3D computer graphics, and the mixing of these can all be learned at the programme.
Funzone activities can help everyone discover the artistic and narrative tools hidden in animation, as well as help young people become active and media-aware audiences.

The activities aim to make adults and children learn the technique in a playful way, including creating their own short films to take home, and to inspire them to use the technique we teach to continue making films in the future. Our activities consist of exercises that encourage new ways of thinking and creative problem-solving.
